iCST dementia education training courses are designed, developed, and delivered by Dr Phuong Leung, a visiting postdoctoral dementia research fellow at University College London, Division of Psychiatry, a senior dementia educator and the founder of iCST Dementia Education Training and Consultancy.
What does this education training involve?
This psychosocial education training course provides an interactive learning environment by applying communication skills and techniques through video observations, case studies, discussions, and practical exercises. It also provides the opportunity for delegates to share their experiences, skills and learn best practice from each other.
iCST Dementia Education Training are currently offering two unique continuing professional development (CPD) accredited courses.
1. One-day individual Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (iCST) dementia education online training course
iCST is an evidence-based intervention offering mentally stimulating and enjoyable activities to people with dementia. This dementia education training course is to empower health and social care professionals and family carers to deliver iCST to people with dementia in a standardise and person-centred way.
Learning outcomes:
Understand the theories of mental stimulation and carers' involvement in cognition-based interventions.
Understand the development and evaluation of iCST.
Understand how to apply the iCST key principles, communication skills and techniques.
Be able to deliver iCST to the person with dementia and train the family carer individually at an iCST setup visit.
Be able to develop problem-solving strategies to deliver iCST sessions.

2. cPD advanced dementia education online training courses
Research indicates that psychosocial approaches have been underused in dementia care. This training is developed after two years of conducting surveys amongst iCST education training attendees and literature search to explore the needs of CPD education training to empower the health and social care workforce and family carers.

Empowering The Health and Social Care Workforce Course (Module 1)
Learning outcomes
• Identify modified risk factors of dementia and preventions to reduce these risk factors across the life course.
• Have awareness of lessons learned from the impact of COVID 19 pandemic on dementia care.
• Understand the dementia caregiving stress process model and factors impact on stressors and carers’ well-being and the mediating role of coping strategies and social support.
• Understand the impact of neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) on people with dementia and family carers.
• Be able to apply effective communication skills and techniques to manage NPS.
• Understand the conceptual model of carers’ competence in managing NPS.
